Hi,

What is the current version of BeerXML?  The front page has only 1.0, but the forum messages reference 2.05a.  Where can I get the latest schema?

Thanks,
DJ Spiess

Hi DJ,

The current version is 1.0 and it has no officially supported XSDs.  Version 2.0x is a work-in-progress (alpha) and may be downloaded here:

http://www.speakeasy.org/~antonw/beer_xml/BeerXML_v2_05a.zip

I've been working in my spare time on new versions of BeerSmith2BeerXML and ProMash2BeerXML converters, since the current ones in that directory are severely out of date.  I don't expect the updates to be completed soon, since I'm currently several weeks away from getting back to refactoring the converters.

If you have more questions please let me know,

Thank you very much for that!
I, unfortunately, suck at brewing but I'm good with data archiving. This will help!
It's kind of like a surf culture reference there. Surf musicians by definition can't surf but understand and live the life anyways.

How close is v2 to a final XSD? There is some discussion (http://beerxml.com/forum/index.php?topic=65.0) about creating API libraries to assist with the implementation of BeerXML. I'd like to contribute to those API's but I don't want to start until a schema is finalized.

Hi Skylar,

I'd say the XSD for BeerXML 2.x is over 90% complete.  Unfortunately I haven't had any time to work on this project recently, but will try to pick it back up next weekend.  Here are the tasks that still need to be completed:

Review current beta draft of BeerXML XSDs
Update documentation to reflect any changes in the current beta
Revise ProMash and BeerSmith converters that provide sample test data in BeerXML 2.x format
Implement recipe calculator based on newest draft

Please don't let any small potential changes prevent you from starting your API work.

Hi Brouwvisie,

Perhaps in a perfect world that may work.  :^}  The BeerSmith2BeerXML and ProMash2BeerXML converters convert BeerSmith and ProMash files to the working draft of BeerXML 2.0x.  From the best of my knowledge BeerSmith still uses v1 of BeerXML (the version that doesn't have an official XSD associated with it).  I have been working on refactoring the v2 converter code, but there is still a bunch of work to do yet.  I'm also thinking there is a need to create a general beer recipe input/BeerXML v2 output program after the converters are brought up to date.

Happy brewing,

Oke, yeah the beersmith xmlexport is indeed version 1.0 (My program also does not support v2.0  Undecided)
May I ask in witch program language you are making these converters ?

Hi Brouwvisie,

The converters are both Win32 console applications written in C++.  When the generalized recipe input/BeerXML v2 output program is created it will be written in Java - since most people are more comfortable with that language (and it's much more portable across platforms).
